Fifth Power Rangers series featuring a pre-teen Ranger and team changes.
Power Rangers Turbo, the fifth season of the Power Rangers franchise, first aired in 1997. It was preceded by the second Power Rangers film, *Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie*. Like earlier entries, the series adapts footage from a Super Sentai show—in this case, the 20th series, *Gekisou Sentai Carranger*.
This season is notable for introducing a child actor as the Blue Ranger, making it the only series so far to feature a pre-teen Ranger. It also marks the departure of long-running characters Zordon and Alpha 5, as well as the original Ranger team, who are replaced by four new characters. The series represents the final regular appearances of Johnny Yong Bosch, Catherine Sutherland, Steve Cardenas, and Nakia Burrise.
**Plot**
Following the defeat of Maligore, the Turbo Rangers—Tommy Oliver, Adam Park, Tanya Sloan, and Katherine Hillard—graduate from high school. The new Blue Ranger, 12-year-old Justin Stewart, skips several grades and enrolls at Angel Grove High. Divatox, seeking revenge, begins attacking the Rangers. Early in the season, mentors Zordon and Alpha 5 leave for Zordon’s home planet of Eltar, replaced by the spectral Dimitria of Inquiris and Alpha 6. Ernie departs for volunteer work in South America, and Lt. Stone takes over the Juice Bar. An ally called the Blue Senturion arrives from the year 2000 with a message that Lord Zedd, Rita Repulsa, the Machine Empire, and Divatox will unite to destroy the universe, but Divatox corrupts the message’s ending.
Later, Tommy, Adam, Tanya, and Katherine, moving on to new chapters in their lives, pass their powers to a new team: T.J. Johnson (Red), Carlos Vallerte (Green), Ashley Hammond (Yellow), and Cassie Chan (Pink), with Justin remaining as Blue Ranger. They are joined by the Phantom Ranger, a mysterious being from another world. The team learns that Dark Specter has captured Zordon, who warns them not to rescue him to avoid leaving Earth defenseless. The Rangers lose both the Turbo and Rescue Megazords in a battle against Divatox’s monster Goldgoyle. Dimitria and the Blue Senturion leave for Eltar to help Zordon, while Divatox discovers the Power Chamber’s location. Her forces infiltrate and destroy the Chamber, defeating the Rangers.
